Indexed API seed examples

These are starter public-data endpoints and catalog examples for discovery workflow design. Validate licensing, rate limits, access terms, and data quality before operational use.

USGS

National Map Services

Topographic and national basemap service references for elevation and mapping prototypes.

FEMA

NFHL Flood Data

Flood hazard service references useful for public hazard-layer discovery and validation workflows.

Minnesota

Geospatial Commons

State open geospatial catalog references for parcels, imagery, transport, and statewide datasets.

Discovery workflow

The original prototype included local browser fallback data plus a Node/SQLite backend for persisted stars, queued discovery searches, fingerprinting, and candidate promotion. This labs page preserves the concept under the correct organizational domain.

  • Catalog: collect public endpoint candidates with source, organization, region, protocol, and purpose.
  • Fingerprint: inspect response type, service metadata, queryability, layers, collections, and basic capabilities.
  • Validate: confirm access terms, reliability, licensing, and usefulness before promoting into operational use.
  • Integrate: wire approved endpoints into map rendering, data analysis, or infrastructure workflows.
